Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) Computer and Graphics Segment were the main revenue drivers which had also helped it boost its first ever operating profit in over three years. With Ryzen series Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) is competing from the very high to the entry-level categories of the computer processors segment. Though Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has the lead, it is feeling the heat in x86 processors segment for workstation and computers.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) Computer processor segment saw 51% Y/Y revenue growth in Q2 2017. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) desktop segment declined by 3% year on year revenue. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) desktop segment Q2 revenue as negatively impacted by AMD. As AMD continues to increase its capacity AMD should continue to see growth over the next quarter. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) share price has performed strongly in 2017 climbing as much as 31% boosted by strong 2016 fourth quarter and 2017 second quarter performance. Ryzen series accounted for 133 million in sales in the first quarter. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) has seen a decline of $239 million for the first half of 2017 in its non-volatile memory business and is expected to turn profitable by 2018. Intel’s notebook platform grew by 14% year over year.

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) has now targeted Intels enterprise CPU market with Ryzen PRO CPU line-up. The new Ryzen PRO CPUs are targeted at professional workstation users and are set to be 62% faster than their Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) counterparts in terms of performance and promising an improvement of as much as 52% over the older generation CPUs. With booming cloud and IOT services the workstation market is set to grow over 22.5% year over year during the first two quarters of 2017. Advanced Micro Devices, Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) is unlikely to see next wave of growth until it partners with branded PC builders to include Ryzen in both desktop and laptop builds.
