Sree Sankaracharya University to Follow the Solar Route for Electricity Needs

Kalkady would be inaugurated on the 21 January at the Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit.  An amount of Rs 83.85 lakh is used to install the new solar plant and this would roughly take care of about 50% of the power requirement of the university.

With this new solar plant, Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit is expecting Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh to be saved on their monthly electricity bills.  This power plant also comes with 100kW capacity. There are 250 watts of capacity for each 400 panels to generate 12,000 – 15,000 units of electricity per month.

The Vice Chancellor M C Dileep Kumar said – “We have obtained all the approvals from KSEB and got Rs 12 lakh as a subsidy. We expect another subsidy of Rs 12 lakh. While the warranty for the plant is 5 years, for the solar panels it is 25 years.”



There would also be a foundation stone along with this, which would be laid down for the language block and this block will also house Malayalam, English, and Hindi departments besides the administrative staff quarters.

C Raveendranath, the Education minister would disclose the statue of Sankaracharya, the ‘National Philosopher’ at the main entrance. The decision to install Sankaracharya’s statue was taken in November 2015 at the university syndicate meeting.  From the time this decision was disclosed, there has been much opposition to this idea by the Leftist groups, which are led by SFI and teachers’ unions by terming this plan as a reverting, communally-motivated plan

Talking about the Sree Sankaracharya University, it is a public university oriented on research and is located near Kochi in Kerala at Kalady. This university is named after the philosopher and sage named Adi Sankaracharya. This university was established in the year 1993 and is located on the banks of the river Poorna.

The university works with preservation and publication of books and manuscripts in Sanskrit and many other languages. There are nine regional centres from where this university functions, namely Kalady (main campus), Tirur, Koyilandy, Panmana, Thuravoor, Payyannur and Ettumanoor. This university also came up with Career Guidance and Counseling Cell, which was established in the year 2012. The main objective of this cell was to provide better career management to their students. The services that are included in this Career Guidance and Counseling Cell would include training programs, recruitment drives, guidance and counseling.
