To understand the REC (Rural Electrification Corporation Limited), IIM-Trichy has signed a memorandum for financial help to set up a two-megawatt solar power plant at Chinna Suriyur village in IIM-T’s permanent campus.
This campus is 17 km south-east of the city center and is located on the Trichy-Pudukottai highway. It is covered with complete greenery throughout the campus. They are expecting to utilize all the Solar PV Plants in order to cover sixty percent of the power requirements.
This campus has many green measures taken. This campus would be working towards becoming a zero waste campus. Recycles water is used for maintaining the greenery. The campus is designed in such a way that water harvesting is facilitated. This campus has planned an artificial pond by using a big stream, which would pass through the campus within the next three to four years
The new campus of IIM Trichy would contain fifteen classrooms. These would be medium, big and small sized classrooms, which would accommodate 75, 150 and 50 students respectively. All these classrooms have the latest technology equipped. New technological features like data storage facilities and live teaching session recording facilities are equipped in each classroom in order to help students with searching activities and teaching lessons. The hostel of this campus is expected to accommodate 500 students.
On Monday, at the RECL corporate office, New Delhi, there was an agreement signed. The Chairman of RECL, P V Ramesh, the managing director, Prafulla Agnihotri and the IIM Trichy director in the presence of many other senior officials of IIM Trichy and RECL have signed the memorandum. If this becomes functional, then IIM Trichy would be the first IIM to have a two-MW solar power plant in the campus.
The cost of this project is estimated to be about Rs.14.2 crores. One of the navatrna enterprises for the Government of India is the REC (Rural Electrification Corporation). It has completely agreed to fund the project taking place at IIT Trichy as a part of the CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) initiative.
The main objective of this project is to cut down pollution by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, reduce energy consumption, and maintain a clean and green campus. This project would definitely be successful in making the self-sustained green campus a 100 percent zero emission campus.
